Review
In hip-hop there are a lot of rappers who are here and gone quicker than you can so “swag”. You also have a select few who continue to make classics and become legends to serve as dictators to its sound. Raekwon is legend. His latest release Unexpected Victory further solidifies his place amongst hip-hops elite with a hefty 17 tracks. The tape features soul heavy A Pinebox Story produced renowned Grammy award winning, producer 9th Wonder. Rae launches into his signature gritty storyteller style that helped forge his place in hip hop. The album heads into a breezy but cool space with Silk featuring fellow hip hop titan CL Smooth. You can literally hear chef balance the tape as it goes along. You learn right away the he knows pace, heading into That Good Good featuring Altrina Renee. During this juncture of the tape its clear Raekwon is accustomed to creating bangers AT WILL. At the midpoint You’ll find the hard-hitting This Shit Hard with Chicago’s L.E.P. Rae reintroduces new artist Altrina Renee on the sultry Facetime. Things reach their hottest when Rae teams up with fellow flamethrowers as on the heater Gangsta Cazals featuring the ghost Styles P. The album finishes with the high energy, percussion laced Black Dust produced by Chicago’s own The Freshmen. Raekwon knows how to deliver classic music and while this one stands above even some key mainstream releases, it feels like a mixture more of new talent than pure Raekwon.
